When I purchased my 2018 C-28 the surveyor said I should replace the anchor with a larger/heavier model. I am looking for a recommendation for make/model anchor folks have been happy with. Thanks

Search "anchor upgrade" on the forum. Lots of discussion on the topic. I would only add that depending on how and where you use the boat the stock anchor may be sufficient.

Never discuss religion, politics or anchors! Long chain can trump anchor size. I tend to go overkill. I have a 30 lb Manson Supreme with 30 feet of chain. Rocna is good as well. You may want to check to see that whatever anchor you choose that it will fit appropriately for your launch, bale and distance to windless.

I have C26 same bow as the C28 and used the standard Bruce anchor. I was asked by many boaters on the dock "how does that little anchor work?" I actually never had an issue with holding but most anchorages I was in were mud and hard sand so no issues. After reading several reviews on TugNuts and speaking with Ranger and Cutwater owners along with noticing there was either a Rocna or Manson Supreme hanging off the bow of most Rangers and Cutwaters. I decided to make a change and use the Bruce for a spare. I chose the Rocna 10 based on advise of a Follow Cutwater 28' owner that had very high reviews of the Rocna. I did change the anchor roller heavier design ( Kingston ) to better fit the Rocna in the anchor shoot. There are many that did not change the roller and the Rocna works fine for them. I have to admit I have much more confidence in the holding with the Rocna. It is basically drop and set. I don't have any stories of great holding in high winds and sea's, but I feel confident that those stories can be told. I hope I never have to tell them though. I'm posting a few pictures of the Anchor install.

Note: With this install I remove the anchor from the roller and set it on the deck when I launch or load the boat on the trailer. Steeper ramps it will hit the winch stand.

Glad you added the anchor hitting the winch stand detail. I have no problem on shallow ramps but on steeper ramps do the same. PITA

i tied rochna 15 and Vulcan 12 but ended up with Rocna 10 due to bow roller size. no issues with holding. glad I dont have the original supplied anchor

I will echo most of the previous comments and add a few comments with our experience anchoring in the PNW. In kelp the stock Bruce anchor skidded and frequently did not dig in and set. So that would involve pulling up the anchor and cleaning off the kelp and trying again. With our Rocna that has not happened once. In many of the anchorages we go to (the ones listed in the guide books!) there frequently are many boats there already anchored. Add to that the preponderance of mooring floats and it adds up to a tight anchorage. In this situation you rarely are able to let out 4:1 let alone 5:1. Get used to 3:1. This year we anchored a few times at 2.5:1. When you are in this situation it is comforting to have an anchor that is a little on the heavy side of the recommended anchor weight. This will cause more wear and tear on your windlass than lighter anchor will but....in Desolation Sound many of the boats go with all chain, this helps in a tight anchorage also even though in a strong wind all chain doesn’t seem to outperform the chain/rode combination (just from what I read not trying to start something).

I just upgraded the stock anchor on my C28 to a Rocna 10. I kept the stock bow roller and just added a Mantus Anchor mate. Also added the Mantus S1 swivel. You need to replace the bolt that goes through the roller with one 1/2 in longer to attach the Anchor mate (I used a 1/2 by 4 course thread in stainless) I did it with the boat in the water and it took about an hour minus the run to the store for the new roller bolt. It deploys and retrieves just fine with the stock bow roller. The anchor mate keeps the point well away from the bow.

I am in the process of installing the mantus anchor guard on my c28. The bracket hits the bow roller and the stainless steel bow plate. Doesn’t look like it’s going to be a problem but I was wondering if your install was the same. Also do you put the boat on a trailer and if so does it clear the trailer roller
Thanks
