I was messing with my anchor and rode. I wanted to make sure the bitter end was secured before I go out and drop a hook. I have my R27 for a few weeks now. While I was messing around, I found a wire with a plug. It looks like the wire t a trailer hitch. Why would you hook up the boat lights when trailering? I did use both the up and down switches and the windlass functioned. I just put a zip tie on the wire to keep it up and out of the way of the chain and the road. Is that wire anything important?

The wire to which you refer is to power the boat's sidelights for use when trailering at night.

Look on the transom...turn signals, back up lights and running lights powered by that cable

That's what I thought. Thanks!

We've hook this pigtail up 100% of the time for the simple reason it provides an additional margin of light safety (tail, brake and turn signals) lighting, especially considering the trailer lights are so close to the ground. Because the anchor locker is a moist and damp place I've found it helps the electric contact connect to be more reliable if you dab a little die electric grease on the plugs.

I think this is just another example in a long list of them on what a thoughtful and quality minded manufacturer does in their products. When I found my wire on the '27" I asked the same question and was very happy to hear the answer you got also.

If I plug the trailer wiring into the usual connection on my truck, where do I connect the boat lighting plug in? Sounds like a good idea, just not sure how you make both connections( a y adaptor ?).

On EZ Load Trailers that have been set up for Rangers they are built into the trailer and found in the winch area.
This provides your side marker lights for towing at night, etc.

Thanks for the info re the EZ Load Trailer. Mine is a Load Rite, guess they didn't get the memo! Sounds like an item to add to the "to do list"
