Anchor Wash Down

After much time, frustration and ^$@#%^&&%$$, I finally got a 1/2” PEX water line from the bilge area under the engine to the bow area under the bow thruster. I plan on connecting this water line to the aft wash down pump line and then adding another Johnson Thru Deck Hose Fitting next to the anchor locker. My only concern is the 1/2” PEX line has an outer diameter of 5/8”. The pipes or tubes through the cross stringers in the bilge appear to have a 1” inner diameter. Therefore, the PEX tubing takes up the majority of the space in the drain tubes. I do not see this as a safety problem, however. There should be minimal water coming down through the bilge from the bow.

I’ve been dragging a hose forward from the washdown pump faucet to accomplish anchor/rode washdown. Your solution sounds better, but I’m not ready to tackle such a job.

For the last 40+ years I have hauled an anchor up to the point where I could see how clear it was. If it needed a wash down I dropped it two feet below the bow and left it there for 10 minutes or so at 5-6 knots. I could then put it away clean. Now you tell me that all I have to do is run a salt water wash down line forward, throw in a few fittings and I can be like the mega yachts, hosing off the rode as it comes aboard. I feel humbled!!

This is my next project to complete. I agree carrying the hose to the bow is a pain. After our run on the river system last Fall Illinois, Mississippi ,Ohio,Tennesse the anchor and chain would come up with a considerable amount of mud. I'm going to use the wash down pump also but I'm running my water lines from stern to bow on the port side of the boat. I have removed the interior panels in the cave giving me access to run the hose along the interior chine area of the boat there is enough space between the forward liner and hull in the berth area to run the hose into the thruster/bilge area then up to the anchor locker. I'm also running Tv cable coax( with a splitter so we can either use cable from the marinas or our antenna ) and flexible boat wire for a couple of 110 power outlets to the berth area for a larger TV . Did you run your water line thru the bilge drain tubes ? That had to be a tough run ! Good job on install. I'm actually surprised it is not an option from the factory.

I did not personally install my anchor wash, but mine runs up under the gunnel all the way around above the headliner and then into the anchor locker. Seems like that is an easier run and won't block the weeps.

I ran a wire snake up the bilge drain area. It went fairly easily. I tried to pull a 3/4” hose up the bilge drain tubes but it would not fit. I had already ran my backup camera wiring along the starboard side but I did not want to add a water line in amongst all the boat wiring. I tried to snake a lead wire up the port side but could only get three quarters of the way forward. I also tried snaking a wire down the port side (bow to stern) - no luck also. I tried snaking a lead wire on top of the fuel and water tanks - no luck. I eventually went to the smaller PEX line up the bilge. I was amazed when it passed through, eventually. I think you can also run a wire and eventually a hose up the port side starting above the generator area. The wire lead will come out above the aft dinette seat on the interior of the cabin and on the far outer side. You can then run the hose along the port side of the dinette under the teak trim. Then down in to the AC area and on to the area below the v-berth.
