I do a lot of anchoring and would like to know if anyone has put a bigger anchor on their 27 tug and was there any problems with going bigger. But not over sized. I was thinking around 30lbs ?

We have a Rocna 15 (33lbs) on our R27. Works great. Fits great.

I had the Rocna 35 lb. and I now have a Manson Supreme 35lb. Both are great. The Rocna I had was recalled because of manufacturing defects. When I went to get the new one I saw the Manson. It is almost identical with a thicker shank. Probably to avoid patent infringement. The Manso was $100.00 less expensive so I got that and $100.00 back. I have never dragged. On both anchors I had to extend the anchor launch to the further holes. For the Manson Supreme I had to also change the front bale because of the higher shank.

I don't think you will be disappointed with either anchor. I do sleep well on the hook.

As an aside. I only have 30 feet of chain with 200 feet of rode. I usually cruise on the east coast and this is plenty. I am now in the PNW for the summer and I was anchored in Princess Cove with a stern tie. I was only able to get a 4:1 scope. Others were dragging. We did just fine.

I have a Rocna 10 (22lb) on my R27 with 50ft chain and 150ft line. I am pretty neurotic about anchoring and thought that was plenty (and more than enough according to Rocna) - but after reading the above I feel the need to upsize...

Fwiw, we put a Rocna 10 on our tug, and it's held in a variety of conditions, including a 35 kt gale on a sandy Bahamian cay, with 40 ft chain and 150 ft rode. We carry the stock Lewmar claw anchor as a spare/backup with an extra 40 ft chain and 150 ft rode, but haven't needed it yet; but it's nice to know it's there.

The standard (for my R27) 16b Bruce dragged through the mud on a windy afternoon in south San Francisco Bay. The 20lb High Tensile Danforth did not.

On this topic there is always a lot of discussion about various anchors but rarely any discussion about what type of bottom one typically anchors on. It does make a difference which anchor will perform best. It's a compromise for those of us who have to anchor on multiple bottom types. You FLA boaters have it easy. Other than those pesky hurricanes. And squalls every afternoon. 😀

In direct response to the OP, on our R25 in order to go from the factory supplied 16lb claw to a 22 lb Delta, we had to shift the bolt in the tilting roller to the "longer" position. And at that with the anchor on the roller the tip of the plow just clears the stem.

I'll not venture any comments on performance of the anchor. Through two seasons thus far we've not had to survive more than 25kts or so which isn't much of a test.
