anode modification

Before I undertake this modification I thought I would run an idea I had by you. I have a "grouper" that I connect to the engine block and throw it overboard to act as a sacrificial anode. My idea is to run a ground wire attached to the engine mount up underneath the sink and through bolt it next to the fresh water wash down. This would save me having to open and close the hatch each time I deploy the grouper. Any reason not to do this? Thanks. Jerry

I have a similar set-up on my R-25. I ran a ground wire from a ground connection on the engine mount to between the cockpit liner and the hull, then via a stainless steel bolt, permanently hooked my overboard line to it. When I go out, I haul the zinc in, wrap it in a cloth and lay it on the cockpit floor out of the way. Ron Mallon of Sidetrack gave me a 3 or 4 pound commercial zinc and I replaced the "fish" with it. I have (again, Ron's recommendation) a $7 stainless steel wire brush to clean the zinc with. And, finally -- after hanging on to the thing for a year -- added a "shaft brush" to the ground system. I hope that helps my system. Time will tell.
