I am replacing the anodes on my boat (2014 C-28). I am in salt water and the old ones have degraded fairly rapidly in my current slip.
I am also putting on new 12x12 drop fin trim tabs. My question is whether or not I should put zincs on the new trim tabs. My current trim tabs have zincs, but for the new ones, I would need to drill some holes.
I also have zincs on the swim step supports and will be replacing those, the prop zinc and thruster zincs. Should I add any others? I understand newer C-28s have a large zinc plate installed somewhere (its on the Cutwater-28 parts sheet). Can that be installed on an older model?

While there is no dissimilar metals used (a major cause of galvanic corrosion) on the trim tabs there are some areas where crevice corrosion can occur. I have heard stories of the mounting screws corroding and detaching. According to the factory Bennet recommends anodes be added if the boat is kept in salt water. If you need more anode material a transom anode can be added. It does require drilling through the hull below the water line to mount and make the bonding connection. If your swim step support anodes are lasting at least 6 months I wouldn’t bother with the transom anode.
