My buddy Opy (yorkie) and I had another wonderful weekend on the upper Chesapeake Bay area. We spent the night anchored on the Bohemia River after cruising around CD canal area. Saturday we motored over to the North East River. Fooled around there having a good time then headed back towards Elkneck State Park Launch. Got some munchies and a bag of ice. Spent the night in Cabin johns Creek almost directly across Elk River from State Park . Got up very early this morning and just got back to marina , loaded and ready to head home when the predicted storms started. Glad I got up early.
Every time out with this boat I just love it more. Her name is going to be ( Gentle Lady) sort of fits her nature.
Opy likes the little step on either side. He can stand there and look out. Of course he wears a live vest too. We both have a tendency to sink.
I am still amazed at the small amount of fuel she uses. Anxious for next season to do the Erie Canal.
Also this year yet I would like to take her to Rays Town Lake in Pa. Anyone been there with tug.? best launch ramp?

Eric, What are your intentions for the Erie Canal? Do you plan to cruise up to the canal or trailer? I had been thinking about cruising up, but I don't know about the stretch between New Jersey and New York Harbor.

There is an intra-coastal waterway from Cape May all the way up to Manasquan inlet. It is a great trip and you will have no problem in a 21. Once you reach Manasquan inlet there is about a 32 mile stretch on the outside (ocean) with only one safe harbor about 5 miles into the trip (Shark River). You should definitely plan to have a few days to wait out any rough weather. Optimal time to travel is early in the morning since in the afternoon the winds pick up on a pretty reliable basis. Any wind coming from S-E-N will make the trip less enjoyable. Anything from the S-W, W, N-W means a pretty nice ride. Once you get to Sandy hook you can duck into Horseshoe Cove or up the Navesink river for a night of rest. NY Harbor can be rough with all of the ferries and boat traffic but once you get further up the Hudson it is all beautiful. There is a nice anchorage behind the Statue of Liberty that we really love. You won't have rough days on the Hudson unless the wind comes directly from the North or South but even then a 21 should handle it.

The Erie canal is fantastic and, unless you get unlucky like we did a few years ago with 100 yr. storms and flooding, you will really enjoy yourself.

We live off of the Raritan Bay and have taken our 25 down to the Manasquan and the intra-coastal and up the Hudson to the canals many times.

My intentions would be to trailer up. Or at least get close. Someplace on Hudson.
