Another Static Engine flush question

Yamaha 200 . I’m securely docked in a slip in a marina with the engine raised. I hooked up the fresh water hose to the static flush port and turned on the water. I’ve not seen any water flushing out of the engine. Suggestions?

Any water at all? That seems odd.

I've never flushed with the engine raised... so not sure how that affects it. But I have to believe that the water HAS to be going somewhere!

I'm on the hard in my marina, so am able to flush out of the water with the engine down, and water comes out of everywhere! Even out of holes I didn't know existed! :mrgreen:

If you're completely sure that there is water flowing through the hose to the engine, and NO water is coming out... I would contact Yamaha.

You can flush the engine with it completely raised. Many r27 OB are moored and can only be flushed while raised. You should see at least little water come out the 'pee' port. If used in salt, just run salt away through it and let it sit overnight and it should run freely at that point. Does it flow normally when at idle when sitting at the dock? If not then I'd have it checked.

My personal opinion, flushing the motor in the water (static). Have the engine warmed up using sea water cooling. Attach flush devise to motor with motor in the operating position. Turn the fresh water flush on and let it flush for about 10 minutes( this is me). 3 minutes is probably enough! Next after the normal operating position flush has taken place start to raise the motor to tilt position once in full tilt position turn the fresh water flush off. Install a spray nozzle and completely rinse the exterior of the motor. Spray fresh water into the exhaust hub of the prop until it over flows and keep rinsing to ensure you have flushed the salt water. Wipe it down to remove water spots and you will have a salt water motor that operates and looks good for a long time.

As far has water coming out of telltale. You may see a dribble or slight flow but not much. It is a big block and the hose may not provide enough water to fill the block completely. If it doesn't you will not see water coming out of the telltail. It is still flushing the motor. The key is do it when the motor is warm.

When running the motor in the water confirm you have a telltale with water flow. If you do not see it when running back flush the tell tail it may be clogged. I would not worry if your tell tail is flowing with the engine running but not during the static flush.
