R 27 2015 Volvo D3 200.

I managed to gel the fluid drained but when I looked at the manual for filling instructions, it said to fill to the mid point between Max and Min marks on the expansion tank. My expansion tank is black with no marks. How full should the expansion tank be. Such as 1/2 full, 2/3 full. I can make a dip stick to measure that. Going back tomorrow AM. Any advice much appreciated.

It is my understanding, on any engine, that you should fill through the cap on the heat exchanger, not the expansion tank. Fill it up to the top and then run the engine and let it "burp" so that any trapped air comes out. Once you are sure it is full to the top with air escaped the expansion tank should read at about 1/2 full when the engine cools. If your tank is black a dipstick will help. The expansion tank is for the purpose of letting the fluid go somewhere when it gets hot and expands and then return when the engine cools down. Hence when the engine is hot it will most likely read full and when cooled down to half.

The Volvo D3 only has one fill point. This fill point is at the expansion tank. The fill mark is about 1 inch below the tanks top. The expansion tank is a polymer white tank with a black cap.

This is the photo of my D3 installed in my C26. You can easily see the tank and the anti freeze level in the tank. I'm not sure why you would have a Black tank !! All the D3 Volvo's that I have seen look just like the photo above. This is the only filling point.

Brian, thank you for clarifying this.

I stand corrected!
