Hello Tug Nuts. My wife and I live in the Clearwater area and we are looking for a used 25 Ranger Tug to do the Great Loop next year. However, none seem to be listed for sale in the Tampa area so we were wondering if any Ranger 25 Owners would show us their boat to see if we would be comfortable on one for six months. If the boat is a candidate, we can always buy one out of the area due to the trailable option.
Thanks

Check with Mark Grove at Wefings Marine. He'll have a real good fix on what's available in your region. You can also check The World of Ranger Tugs Map - there's at least one R-25 fairly nearby. All the markers include member names, so you can contact owners via Personal Message.

Good luck!

Cheers,

Bruce

We are in Daytona Beach on the ICW if you are going to be in the area. More than happy to let you look at my R 25. Will be at Marina over weekend and next week.

Bill and Kathy:

I have no R25 leads for you however when you refer to the Great Loop and needing a boat for doing it in 6 months I'd recommend otherwise. We left on the Great Loop in 2005 with plans to finish the loop in 10 1/2 months, we did, and I can honestly say it did not give us enough time to see all the great places along the way. We never made it up the Tennessee River to Chattanooga, the Keys, St Johns River in Florida, up the Potomac to Washington or Lake Champlaign. We did see plenty but felt we were rushed so we've since visited many places we missed the first time around. The big thing, while doing the loop is that you'll make many friends on the water and most of them will be taking 12 months and because you'll be traveling at a much faster pace you'll have a hard time picking up on the camaraderie of your fellow Great Looper. On the other hand none of this may make any difference to you but it may be worth considering. If you have any Great Loop related questions of any kind please feel free to make contact with us by PM or off line.

As far as doing the loop in a Ranger Tug 25, it can easily be done. John and Laurie on Laurie Ann have Great Loop experience and you may want to make contact with them on this Tugnut sight.
