In my continuing search for better short-person visibility, it occurs to me that pantographic wipers might help, as they would cover more of the lower portion of each windshield. Is there a simple way to do this on my 2013 R-29?

I noticed that these are standard on the R-31, so I am hoping there is an easy method ...

Also, still hoping that the factory will come up with a latch mechanism for the helm seat 🙂

Even though I don't have a height issue, I have found that the wipers are a bit marginal on my R-27. Rain-X offers a help, but not for a very long time. I saw these on the defender site http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|311|302336|777067&id=1212033. I am not familiar with these type of wipers, why are they better. It says that they can only be used with AFI-2000 and MRV motors. Anyone know what motors are on our boats?

Mike,
Because the motors for the wipers are corner mounted and not in the center of the window I believe the sweep would be wrong and go off the glass. I have only seen that type of wiper set up when the motor was mounted in the center of the window (or spaced properly for multiple units) on the top or bottom of the glass.

Barry,
Is Crystal Fusion a do it yourself application...and does it help with the glare problem of other boat lights at night due to the fact that the windshield glass is about verticle?

Thanks, Phil

I will look into some of these coatings.

Yes, it's a DIY task. It's a bit spendy, but worth it IMO. I had it as part of my new auto purchase last year and because of this Crystal Fusion sent me a spare spray bottle for my continued use. I used it on our R-25 windshields and I'm very pleased. You apply several coatings to get the full performance. It has lasted me 18 months now without having to re-apply it.

I cannot advise on boat light reflections in the windshield at night time as I've done very little boating when it's dark.

What I do find is a problem is that on sunny or bright days there can be water reflections of some kind that will almost make it impossible to see out of one of the windshields and in particular the windshield directly in front of the helm. I have to cock my head over some to see clearly. This isn't a 'reflection' on the Crystal Fusion application but rather a weird light reflection coming from somewhere.

The new R-31 has curved windshields (they bend outwards) and I'm sure this helps deflect/avoid some of the glare and unwanted reflections when on the water.

Thanks for the info Barry. The reflection problem I have is due to the flat, verticle windshield glass at varying angles to the helm. Boat lights approaching from the rear quarters at night reflect off the inside of the windshield units and it is difficult to determine if the boat is ahead of me, showing thru the glass, or behind me reflecting off the glass. As a result, I drive with my head out the helm side window. I wish there was a better solution short of a periscope thru the roof. On the 4th, I'll be viewing fireworks from the boat along with several hundred other boaters. After the party is over, I linger for 20 minutes or so until the crowd clears before heading back to the dock....about 10 miles. Still a challenge tho.

While on the topic of wipers, has anyone figured a way to put an intermittent switch on at least one wiper?
