So I’ve been looking at upgrading to a 4 blade for my R25OB. This is a daunting task with so many options. I’ve watched Submariners (Channel Surfing) YouTube videos and read many general propeller buying guides on line. It seems like 4 blade props are a better fit for the typical Ranger Tug operator. I can’t help but wonder why Ranger installs 3 blades when you can buy 4 blades for almost the same cost as the 3 blades they install at the factory? Anyway, has anyone upgraded to a 4 blade prop on a R25 OB? If you did what prop did you go with?

If you're seriously considering a 4 blade (usually for better hole shot, less cavitation, lower speed planing, but also creates less MPG and WOT) I'd check with Ken at https://propgods.com/. Best expert I know and was honest with me that I'd spend about $500 on a new prop and 'maybe' get another MPH at top end as the only improvement over what I already had on the boat. Lost a sale, but gained my loyalty.

Lots of articles on the internet you can read, but if still interested, check with Ken. Usually, he'll even let you test one out.

Not everybody needs a 4 blade prop. If you are looking for the most fuel efficient prop, the 3 blade will beat the 4 blade on mpg.

Thanks for the reply. I was at Shasta Lake a couple weeks ago and almost grounded on a submerged island in a area I’m unfamiliar with. This got me thinking that it might be prudent to have a spare prop on board. I did some looking around on the internet and came across your prop video. Given our usage pattern so far we are definitely in the ’slow boaters’ category generally, so maybe a 4 blade would be a better fit for us? All this leads me to think if I’m going to get a second prop I might as well get a 4 blade so I could have the best of both worlds.

Thanks, I will keep him in mind.

Hey Mike_B,

Did you end up getting a 4 blade prop for your R25OB? If so, how'd it work out? Thanks.
