Autopilot ECU not present

The autopilot on my Ranger 25 sc is not working. In poking around I find that there is no voltage present on the 12 V wire going into the unit. I thought that this would be easy. I found the fuse to the autopilot pump and it’s OK. I suspect that this is not the one I’m looking for. Can’t follow the ECU 12V wire to its source because it’s mixed in with a gillion other wires. Does anyone know where I can find the wire supplying the 12 V to the Autopilot ECU? Help please.

Try this. Hold the fusion radio power button in for 10 seconds. It will go through a reset. After it resets open the settings menu and scroll down to NRX. Turn NRX on. Check autopilot and see if the Screen powers up. If it does you lost power to the N2K backbone. Many Rangers and Cutwaters have the backbone powered by the NRX of the Fusion radio. It is not designed to do that and can cause the radio to "freeze up" and the NRX for some reason turns off. I had this happen. After finding out the cause I changed the power source for the N2K backbone to prevent this from happening again.

Thanks for responding. I actually tried that,(I saw that you posted this for a similar problem) Did the reset thing but but never saw N2K in the settings on my Fusion radio. My radio was made in 2013. The autopilot display seems to work fine, it’s when I press the “engage” button that I get the error message.

We have had a similar problem whenever the boat has not been used for awhile. Usually, just turning off the house power for 10 seconds and powering back on will solve the problem. A reboot of all the systems works wonders and possibly avoid user induces errors during system resetting.

It is the wrong way to route power to the N2K back bone!

Even if it’s wrong, at least this is a work around

The reset is the right way to work around it as wired to power it up the back bone. My point was it is the wrong way to power the back bone. The NRX power output is not designed to power the back bone. The back bone should have a 12V power supply from a designated circuit from accessory fuse panel.
