I received this message on the autopilot display. My first thought is that the pump (Garmin GHP 10 - 1.2L Pump) has failed and needs to be replaced. Then I considered "Invalid" and wondered if that might mean something else - like not receiving a signal - or something electronic. I am wondering if I disconnect and reconnect the cables will I see anything different? Or is that just wishful thinking? As always - thanks in advance for your oughts, ideas and moral support.

The 1.0, 1.2, and 2.0 hydraulic pumps from Garmin all use an "encoder" mounted to the back of the pump chuck is used to determine a virtual rudder position. If the encoder fails it will cause an "invalid pump" error from the ECU. The encoder can be ordered and replaced, however issues with it typically stem from water ingress which can or will cause other issues with the pump in the long run.

General options would be:
1) replace the encoder
2) ship the entire pump to Garmin for warranty or out of warranty repair/replacement
3) replace the whole pump
4) (assuming the pump is good and just a bad encoder) replace all the other autopilot components with a reactor 40 mechanical/solenoid package and cut the power plug off the existing pump to be wired to the motor/actuator cable.

Thanks F_O_F - found a pump online and will replace the whole assembly. Especially appreciate your advice to return to Garmin. I'll probably to this with the old pump and depending on the cost, have it as a spare.

F_O_F -
Replacing the pump solved the issue. Thanks - Bluejacket
