Subject: Avoiding AIS targets displaying on Chart display

This the info I have for..... Turning Off AIS Reception

  • AIS signal reception is turned on by default.
Select Settings > Other Vessels > AIS > Off.
All AIS functionality on all charts and 3D chart views is disabled.
This includes AIS vessel targeting and tracking, collision alarms that result from AIS vessel targeting and tracking, and the display of information about AIS vessels.

When I make this selection on my Garmin 741XS the red AIS targets continue to display.

How can I avoid these red AIS target icon from displaying on my Chart. In my area there are literally scores and scores of boats around transmitting and my Chart get too cluttered with the red AIS target icons. I simply don't need them on my Chart as most of the boats are docked for repairs or for restocking.

I do recall last year when first installing my AIS device I was able to avoid these AIS targets displaying on the Chart, but at this time I simply cannot fathom out what I did.... sure would like some feedback on this issue. Thanks... 🙂

I know I can disable the alarm. When I am in areas where I have no interest in seeing targets I turn my AIS off.

Yes, that has come to mind but still wonder if there's another way using the Garmin controls.

Seems to me one might fiddle with AIS range and display zoom to make the targets go off-screen.

Turning aka on or off does not remove the targets on the screen. You need to go to vessel display options and disable show marpa targets

Thanks.... I'll try that. 🙂
