I went to an "old school" auto parts store and picked up an 8" curved mirror. The type of place that would have a voltage regulator for a 1961 Ford Pick up truck. It had a 1/2" dia. shaft w/ball and a 1/4-20 bolt behind it. I drilled a hole thru my rail (not easy) to start. Had to use a center drill to get it started in the center. Eventually I opened up the thru hole to 19/64 and then I opened up the front side to 1/2 for the shaft. I just put the shaft in the 1/2 hole and put the 1/4 bolt thru the back and tighten it up. Once I was satisfied with the install, I sealed both holes with silicone. I don't want any water intrusion if I can help it.
This is great! I can back into my slip without hanging out the window of my R27. The head is in the way on the starboard side.
