bad propshaft leak. what do I need to fix it? 2018 C30 435hp

This is about the shaft seal nuts? Using two nuts there is standard. One serves as a lock nut to help ensure the other doesn't come loose.

To adjust, use two wrenches (there is another thread recommending some -- they have to fit together quite closely, which is a challenge with many generic wrenches). Hold the inner nut with one, then loosen the outer nut first, and finally adjust the inner one (along the lines of what Brian noted, small changes at a time, there is any travel left). When done, hold the inner one in place and (not too forcefully) tighten the outer one onto it to lock.

Well crap. Ordered a corkscrew type removal tool and it wont fit in the gap. The collar will not slide back very far only reveling a 1" gap/access to the shaft and to insert the tool (that wont fit too large diameter) but also creates an angle that the tool will not bend to get to the old material.
Bought some picks that are pretty sharp. They will not dig into the old seal to pull it out anyways. Now its disassembled, and cannot get old stuff out. Going to Florida Keys in 3 weeks to boat on vacation, but cannot find a boat shop to assist in time in Florida.
I ordered two WPT Teflon PTFE Flax Shaft Packing - 5/16" x 24"
Flax removal tool: Removal of 1/4" and 5/16" Packing. No reviews on Defender marine when I ordered it. But now at west marine, 5 one star reviews, flimsy and too big to dig out 5/16 flax between shaft and collar. Dam it!!!!

This may blow my entire vacation.

I would just make a tool out of heavy steel wire, bend it to fit inside the box and sharpen the end with file. Another option since you have a trailer is to just add one or two new flax rings without removing the old, dump it in the water and see if it you can adjust the box to proper drip as described above. I had a friend that I knew for about 20 years that never removed the old flax, just added a new ring when the box started leaking excessively.

Good luck and enjoy the Keys.
