I thought I would ask you all for your advice on buying the best BBQ for our 25 ft Ranger Tug..... The captain would like it to attach and detach easily from the stern railing. Consisten heat...stainless steel??? easy to lite?? --- yadda yadda yadda....Thus far, we have only ( whoops ) I have only cooked on our wallas.... works well enough but with some good weather in September at the Rendevous ...it might be nice to cook on the "barbie" .... I strongly suggest that you also purchase an extra handle that you use to lock this down on the rail. I have lost one overboard over the years. I always carry a spare handle and have not had to use it yet...... kind a like that spare tire. Never need it until you don't have it.......

Don't buy a cover for it though. I have a navy blue cover that will match the Christina Bee perfect that I will let you have. (One more item out of the garage.....)

On the same note of getting things out of the garage, we have removed the interior curtains from Solitude. They are brand new as we never used them. Anyone that would like an extra set, I will be more than glad to bring them to the Rendezvous. If you are not attending the rendezvous and would like these, they are yours for the cost of me shipping them to you.

I recently bought a West Marine BBQ from local store that is closing down and secured a 50% off list price. It was the West Marine 200SS Propane Kettle Barbecue and canbe viewed at http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... assNum=465

I was able to pick it up for $125.

I also bought the BBQ mount mechanism that fits into the fishing pole receptacle. This allows the BBQ to hang off to one side (port or starboard) or the other. I leave the BBQ mount attached to the BBQ and stow the whole thing into the removable cockpit step on port side quite easily, along with the 4 USCG approved life jackets. 😉 The life jackets hold the BBQ in place and stops it from rattling around.

I have not used this BBQ yet but when assembled and hanging off the stern port side it not only looks nice and shiny but also easily accessed and safe.

I have the Sea Chief by Force 10 and think its a clone of other similar grills. A little over a hundred bucks plus a mount from Fisheries Supply in Seattle. Pictures are on my photo area. Good luck on finding the right one.

The Laurie Ann has a West Marine "Kuma" that is rectangular. At first, we tried the mounts that fit in the pole holder but threw those away because it just was not secure enough for our taste. We anchor a lot and wanted a BBQ that was sturdy and fixed to the boat. We mount the BBQ on the rail once the boat is in the water and stow it for trailering. Open flame and fiberglass is a dangerous mixture! This BBQ is fine but it is really hot with a lot of BTU's so we have to vent the heat out when we are baking cinnamon rolls or pizza on the baking stone.

I grew tired of carrying propane bottles and have cross threaded a few when installing them. I also did not like the hanging bottles on the BBQ when we were underway. So, we converted the "bait-well" under the cockpit bench to a propane locker, put in a large bottle that fits like John Livingston designed it that way and vented it properly. There are photos in our album of this modification.

We also bought the rectangular grill from Magna at West Marine and I had mounted it throught the rod holder on the starboard side by using magmas pole mount and an extesion I had made from some galvanized fence pole. The only problem was that with the aft enclosure on , you could not have the grill in that position or even use it. I have found that West Marine has a table that can be mounted on a deck with a quick release. My W/M sold me the base, the mount and post. I have secured the quick release base on the starboard aft side of the transom with four bolts. The quick release mount and post can be easily detached and stored along with the grill when not in use. Now with the aft enclosure in place you just have to remove the walk through panel and take a 1/2 step onto the platform to grill. This keeps the grill away from everything and almost over the open water. Just remember when grilling to move your dink/gas can etc over to the opposite beam of the boat. I have seen too many sailboats in the BVI's light their grill(charcoal) and then set their dink/sailboat on fire from the sparks/fumes. I hope to post some pictures of this setup shortly!

I have posted in photo section of Ainokea, the grill mount I came up with. As I said if you have the full enclosure on you can still use the grill. Once done grilling simple remove the grill from the post and remove the post from the base. These I store in the dry storage on the starboard side. You can still easily use the dive platform ladder with the mount plate in place. This keeps the aft cockpit clean and uncluttered.
