Take a look at my write up on adding a flush connection to the D4 (or really any other) engine. My suggestion would be to add one of these, close your seacock, and put a hose to the flush connector. Instead of using city water, stick a hose in a 5 gallon bucket of mixed solution Barnacle Buster. Use the 5 gallon bucket to supply the engine, and maybe have another person on the boat to kill the engine from the helm or use the emergency button in your engine if you have one so that the system doesn’t run dry.
Let it sit for a few hours and the. Flush it with fresh water.
