Has anyone upgraded the standard battery charger on a 27 classic?
Have a ‘16 27 Classic with the ProMariner 12-20 charger and AGM batteries in standard configuration. Pondering a 12-40 charger with goal of shortening generator run times in the morning with solar panel to top off batteries during the day.
Normally can be on hook or ball for couple/three days before worrying about battery status unless winter cruising with furnace keeping things cozy including making coffee off inverter in the morning.
On upcoming trips, may add auxiliary 12v fridge/freezer and intending to run icemaker from Honda 2k while charging if required for this and future long trips and worried about charging.
Prefer to not run engine unless cruising to new spot. Except. Kuerig coffee is largest load and have started running engine and inverter for half hour in morning while brewing travel mugs full of coffee for the morning to avoid low voltage warning and provide a surface charge.
Current icemaker running for an hour and charger on generator in driveway at indicated18a charge on Victron gauge does not load generator enough to come off idle.
Standard configuration has worked fine since 2017. Upcoming 2 week trip to Powell has me contemplating power upgrades and efficiencies.
Have stock 145w Kyocera solar panel along with Victron MPPT 75/15 charge controller. Looking to also upgrade to Victron 175w panel of same width as Kyocera to allow continued use of kayaks on racks on either side of solar panel.
Thoughts?
