My boat (CW 302 Coupe) is stored in a hangar in Anacortes for the winter with the 30 amp shore power plug connected to an adapter into a regular wall socket. I have 2 Caframo Stor-Dry dehumidifiers and one GoldenRod dehumidifier rod running constantly. The bilge pumps are disconnected (fuse).
They just called from the storage unit that my wall plug had become accidently unplugged for several weeks but the problem has been corrected. My question is how would I know if the AGM batteries were discharged too low and is one time sufficient to cause permanent damage? What would be the symptoms of battery failure from overdischarge?
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks and Merry Christmas - Bill

Bill,

It depends if your inverter has an automatic transfer switch and if it was set to transfer to the inverter on loss of shore power.

If not, then you may not have drained your batteries much at all assuming all the devices you had no significant 12volt items running (i.e., the refrigerator, lights etc., were not turned on or your battery switch was turned off).

If the inverter did switch on you likely drained your batteries significantly, however, the inverter may have an automatic cutout if the batteries get too low. Worth checking.

If they were drained the only way I know to reliably check your batteries health is to remove them and run them on a battery tester.

Thanks Curt for the reply. At this point how would I assess the amount of permanent damage (no trailer for boat). Would it appear as inability to fully charge? Thanks - Bill

I have a 302 in the PNW that we keep plugged in the same way. You can set your inverter to not kick on when you loose shore power. I set mine to the IN0 setting. You can find out how to do this in your inverter manual. I have the pages of the inverter manual saved in my notes on my iPhone because I always forget how to change the settings. If you like I can send them to you.
