I’m about to change out the factory supplied Universal batteries for the first time. I would have replaced with identical batteries but the border remains closed. Such is life. I am looking at using 3 x group Lifeline T batteries (XT not available) for house and thruster and adding an Optima blue top starting battery. All AGM so my charging profile should be fine. This choice was based on comments here on TugNuts.

Has anyone done this exact change and would like to share experience please?

Thanks

Local pickup, made by East Penn, cheaper than many other brands.

Thanks for responding. Though we don’t have Sam’s Club in British Columbia we do have East Penn batteries. I went with Lifeline because there was only a 10% price difference, they have a good reputation and a 5 year warranty, albeit prorated.

It was more the separate blue top Optima for which I was seeking input.

Anyone??

I combined the yellow top Optima with Universal AGMs. My understanding is that the yellow top is identical to the blue top except for the blue top having two sets of connection posts, which can be useful. I was told the Optima does well on an AGM charging profile and it has seemed to work fine for me. I switched the house bank over to lithium iron phosphate almost a year ago but still have the Optima engine battery and Universal AGM thruster battery on a single AGM charger. The Optima definitely has more cranking power than the old Universal AGM.
