Reviews for boat BBQ seem to be all over the map

On the cutwater there is a mounting point in the stern cabinet for the Kuuma stow and go which gets terrible and then some great reviews.

So Im turning to the Tugnuts community to see what you use. I will share the results back on the post.

We were in the market for a new propane portable bbq grill for our Boat in 2017. I placed a similar post on Tugnuts at that time and received a lot of feedback. After review of Tugnuts recommendations and other online reviews we went with the Dickinson Spitfire 180. We’ve had it for 1 1/2 years and have no complaints. The built in thermostat works, auto starter is a nice plus, the grill has nice handles and a great finish n includes a nice grill cover. We did not mount our grill, using it on the dock, swim platform, etc and stow it in a cockpit locker after each use.

Very happy with my Magma grill. Had it a long time, kept from my other boat. I have the kettle style and mount it to a rail.
Igniters never seem to work, but other than that, very happy.

Hi Gavin,

I forgot to add one detail in my response. Our Magma is an infrared model. What this really means is there is a shield to reduce flare ups, which is very important on a boat. Others in the survey mentioned using a griddle or other shield which does the same thing. I highly recommend an infrared model or other means to reduce flare up. It is worth the extra money in my opinion.

nice! thanks Curt.

Hello, Gavin,

Just wondering if you received my PM to you regarding your questions about a BBQ? If not, it should be in your inbox.

Thanks

Our boat came with a small Kuuma grill. We've only used it a couple of times and it sucked. It constantly blew out and it took forever to cook. The round Magma we had many years ago wasn't much better. So after checking all the blogs and reviews I bought a Weber Q1200 for $190. Everyone that owns one swears by it. It does have its drawbacks though- doesn't mount to rail, and has a ceramic coated steel grate. I think adequate seasoning of the grate will protect it from the salt air. The burner is stainless steel and the body is cast aluminum. Several owners mount their's on a bait cutting table that mounts to a rail or rod holder. I'll report back after a few uses.
