As we prepare for our upcoming Gulf Island Cruise (August 16th-September 5th), we have made plans to stay a few nights in BC Marine Parks. The cruising guides indicate that some of these parks require payment for overnight moorage. Could one of our Canadian Tug Nutter's please provide us with the following information on the BC Park System:

1) Can you obtain a annual pass for all parks?
2) If so, how do you go about doing so? (The BC Park Web Site did not indicate whether you could or not)
3) If an annual pass is available, what is the cost? (Washington State is $100.00 for a R-29)

Thank you,
David and Maureen

There is no annual BC parks pass. You are charged nightly, based on your length. The rates are VERY reasonable.
Threre is a rate for a mooring bouy ( approx $10.00 per night ) and a per foot rate if there is a dock in the marine park that you choose to tie to....most don;t have docks.
The only downside is the currency exchange rate is no longer in your favor.
Hope this helps !

Last night at Montague, the rate was $12 Canadian on the buoys......they accepted US$...they said they got to us for so long, they could absorb the 50c or so difference.

The rate is $2 per metre at provincial parks, so at 7 metres, the Port Nut paid $14 at Wallace Island.

From the July 2011 "Pacific Yachting" (page 18)

"MOORING CHANGES IN GULF ISLANDS NATIONAL PARK RESERVE

Parks Canada has addressed concerns from boaters regarding difficulty finding overnight moorage in the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve by changing the time of free day use mooring. After receiving complaints that many boaters had to seek alternate moorage because they prefer to tie up for the night by 15:00 - 16:00, Parks Canada has changed the day usage time to end at 15:00, with overnight fees being charged from then on. The changes apply to Sidney Spit, Beaumont (Bedwell Harbour) and Cabbage/Tumbo buoys."

There is a chance -- if you pull into Bedwell before 15:00 -- that you MIGHT see a few buoys vacated at 15:00 hrs or threabouts. This is a recent change. I don't know if the buoys are so marked.
