If you did not get custom fit bedding what size do you get for mattress cover and sheets. Do you cover as one piece or cover each of the 3 pieces individually. Also what size comforter fits best

We bought a king size memory foam topper and I cut it to fit with a very sharp kitchen knife.
We then used a queen size mattress cover, and my wife cut it and resewed the elastic to fit. Queen size sheets fit without cutting or sewing.
