Subject: Been busy doing things for my new R29 CB

1) Installed two 12v 3-speed fans. One in fwd stateroom and the other on the C-pillar fwd of the sliding helm position. Both can be connected to Cig lighter sockets. I bought cig lighter inserts that have a On/Off lighted red button so can leave fan on low speed and simply push the red lighted button to power them On & OFF with ease, and increase speed as needed via pushing on the fan's center speed control. The low speed is wonderfully quiet and I'm sure would not disturb me from sleeping on hot nights. The Camfro fans rotate 360º in two directions so the air stream can be directed wherever I want. These fans will also help gently circulate the Webasto's warm air around the fwd stateroom, cabin and mid berth under the dinette table.

2) Painted the bottom areas of both propane tanks with red rubberized paint to help/resist the bottle surface from salt water rusting. I've seen some on other boats that are severely rusty looking.

3) I struggled trying to figure out where to place my binoculars to be handy when needed. I found I could simply hang them in their container with its strap place around the cup holders at the helm position. The container is zipped and when unzipped the lid lowers but does not drop to far as it has holding straps built in so the binoculars cannot fall out. This then allows me to extract the binoculars easily from its container and place them back when not needed and re-zipped up. This has worked well as I've test this out several times when on the water and like my solution.

4) Have installed the Garmin ActiveCaptain software and updated all the Garmin devices to latest software successfully. It does take time and patience doing these software updates.

5) Have connected my Apple TV 4K to the fwd stateroom's TV and can now stream media to the TV via my iPhone and laptop. Will allow for some movie playbacks when boat at rest at dock or on the hook.

6) One of my next tasks will be to mark my anchor rode with 50-foot markers.

7) Have installed two brass clocks; one in cabin and one in fwd stateroom with a barometer alongside it.

8) I made a magazine holder from scrap wood and stained it teak-looking which matches the teak panelling in the fwd stateroom. It is attached to the angled panel facing the island berth and does not interfere with the body as one slides somewhat sideways to the starboard side of the berth. It holds my massive and heavy Chapman Piloting book which is not something I wish to have flying around as a dangerous projectile when the boat is rocking & rolling. Being hit on the head by the flying Chapman Piloting book would be most unfortunate. My 1st mate would never ever forgive me.

9) I'm a bit puzzled about the teak drop down table platform from the fwd wall of the head enclosure. When dropped down it rests on the small table surface and presumably serves as a desk while sitting on the side of the island berth. This means, the surface that the teak table top folds down onto has to be clear of things. I'll figure it out eventually I suspect.

10) I need to finalize how to carry my Sea Eagle FasTrack inflatable kayak. One option is to keep it in its waterproof bag and stow it on the Command Bridge between the forward and aft seats, or have it inflated and slung on J carriers on outside of the Command Bridge's port side rails, or stow it in its bag on the swim step port side of propane locker, or simply leave in the car or home when not needed.

11) I have several different sized Robship bags that can be stuck to smooth fiber glass / gelcoat surfaces with strong suction cups. They work well for me and take up little room. I have one under the helm sliding window, one under the fold down teak table platform in front of the port side Nav seat, a large one below the helm console. They are extremely useful for holding thin boating cruising books, boat paper work, registration certificates and so on. Examples at https://robship.com

I tell myself this all will come to an end....

What make/model clock/barometer did you install? Any pics?

It is a boat.... it never ends!!

Nice set of mods.

Barry, if you’re like me, I add, complete, add, complete and repeat to my boat project list....when the list gets close to being complete it only means I’ve been neglecting my boat duties. Speaking of that I’ve got to go unpack the boat from our winter cruising and prepare it for a Michigan summer. Hope you’re enjoying your new boat Barry.

I have a confession to make.... 😱

The Camfro 12v 3-speed fans come with a bare wire connection with one labelled with a "+". So to use them they have to be wired/soldered to a 12v supply.

I bought cig lighter receptacles with the fancy red LED push button for ON/OFF. These came with bare wires for connecting to the 12v device of choice with one wire being red and the other being black.

When I soldered the cig lighter receptacle wires to the Camfro fan wires I obviously made a mistake as when powering on the fan it ran backwards.... horrors indeed. 🙁 No big deal as it was easy to unsolder and re-solder the wires correctly. The lessen here is of course is to twist the wires together before soldering and test that the fan runs in the proper direction.... which is what I did for the second fan I wired up. 🙂
