We are on the Pacific north-west coast off of Vancouver Island. We moor our R27 year round as we do enjoy the occasional winter cruising. I am looking for suggestions.

A) Since we leave "le Matou" in the water year round, when is the best time to haul her out to have her hull cleaned and polished, 1) in the autumn before winter (or) 2) in the early spring after winter?

B) Last year we used both an engine and cabinet heater to kick on and off to prevent freezing and two Dri-Z-Air Container & Crystals for moisture control. It seemed to do OK but I have heard running a small fan increases moisture control even more? Has anyone heard of that as well?

Best time is when you have too much build up of growth. Is your top speed reduced? Are your RPM's lower than usual?

Like Bruce, I use a dehumidifier from West Marine. Have used this for past 8 years. it keeps the inside of the boat above freezing and deals with lowering moisture and mold issues.

My marina has discount months for their yard and haul outs. I usually will wait for one of these to save a bit of money or will do it when our diver service indicates the hull need cleaning.

For our R-27/OB it will be serviced at least once per year in the fall. This requires the boat to be hauled out and placed on the shop's provided trailer and taken a few hundred feet to their maintenance shop. This will always be an opportunity to inspect the hull and have it cleaned if necessary.... in fact may simply do this regardless since it's out of the water.

I usually have my boat hauled out in April and October to have the bottom pressure washed and change zincs. Since I keep my boat in salt water year round I think this is necessary to clean the trim tabs and bottom plus change some of the zincs.

Hey, wait a minute, you PNW guys! There was a thread a while back on how you don't need air conditioning. Dehumidification is an attribute of A/C. I actually have a dehumidification mode on my A/C. Caught you!!

We hired a diver to clean hull and do zincs since launch in march.we replaced all zincs and have a clean hull with new zincs for $258.
Our home port is lighthouse pub and marina in sechelt inlet porpoise bay.

Our diver recommends checking about every 4 months around here in BC sunshine coast.
