Hi all.

Question - how many Watts do I need in a portable generator to run pretty much everything (including AC) on my RT23?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

2200 Honda or equivalent. It runs everything on my C24.

Hi KKRCRACE.

Thanks for the note.

From the pics i see online, it looks like that Honda 2200 has a regular 30AMP outlet. Do you need an adapter at all for your shore power cable?

Thanks!

Yes you will need an adapter of sorts. I had a short pigtail from an RV and purchased a short heavy gauge extension cord to go from generator to pigtail. I believe that I saw on this forum a link for what you need as a one piece power cable. I didn’t want to use my regular 30 foot shore power cable because I didn’t want all the unused cable laying in the back of the boat. My generator mounts on port side of the swim platform by the shore power plug. I only need about a 3 foot power cable.

Honda 2200 or equivalent. Runs everything. Easy to maintain as well. I use a 6 foot heavy duty cord with a male 30 amp connection to go to the generator and a female connection that plugs into the shore power connection.

The Honda generator will run the all the lower powered stuff on our R23 plus one high powered item at one time (ex: can’t use microwave and AC together). However, we ruined one of these generators by not having it in an RV generator box when motoring with it on the port side swim platform (outboard), due to salt spray. This is not covered by the warranty, unfortunately. (The first place we took it to (Honda dealer) couldn’t find/fix the problem. Northern Tools (place of purchase) repaired it for around $125.) You can research these boxes on this forum, and online, of course. We mounted it on the swim platform, using 3M marine adhesive 4000 UV (don’t use 5200; it is Permanent with a capital P!) to seal around the stainless bolts under and above the platform.

Just a little clarification/explanation on my above response. The generator is needed while underway to power the air conditioner (a very nIce feature in the southeast in July). We moved it from the cockpit to the swim platform due to fumes.
