What's the best way to route a new GPS antenna to behind the helm on an R-31 CB? We are installing AIS transponder which requires a dedicated GPS. Trying to figure out the easiest install.

Thanks!

It might work for you simply coiled up next to wherever the AIS antenna is (if you have room). That's what we did on our C30 sedan. We put the antenna and AIS both in the electronics cabinet behind the helm (inside the head). That has been flawless at picking up a signal.

Our AIS has an internal antenna, as well -- but it did not pick up a signal with just that. The external antenna is much more sensitive.

I have an R29 - So the interior is different... But I mounted my AIS GPS antenna under the dash just forward of the helm.
Garmin had a bracket to allow it to mounted "under deck"....This eliminated a long GPS cable routing to the top of the boat.

It works great. I have never had an issue with this installation.

I hope that helps.

This is a real project. I ran DC and coax up to under CB a few years ago. Need to remove lots of trim on starboard side, including ceiling battens and trim all way across boat. Easy to fish in flex conduit on top. Also ran DC wires from top shelf down corner post to behind helm. Have ran wire from stern to behind helm, had to remove stove and fridge. Have not attempted mast. Believe that goes through in center and might be easiest to run down post behind helm seat to bilge and under fridge and up to helm electronics. None to this is easy, if it works under in helm closet leave it there!
