Has anyone else noticed the coating on the bezels around the white cabin lights is flaking off?

But not the red chart lights.

Ditto. Not sure why.

Mine too. Anyone know where to get replacements?

I also have this as well . I have been looking for replacements. Please link if you find them.

FYI... On our MY2010 R-25 there's no sign of flaking on the white cabin lights brass-looking face plates. Mind you, our cabin lights aren't used that much so wonder if it's heat related with constant use. Are the lights incandescent or LED ? Ours are LED.

I think the originals are incandescent. Good possibility though. Maybe a project could be to clean them up and then use some metallic spray. The new coatings today are pretty good.

I have not converted to LED, but I also do not use them for long periods of time.

Ranger Tugs sources the lights from IMTRA Corporation. Not sure if they sell just the trim ring.

Barry,

When we got the boat (1 year old) we swapped out for LED lights. I am on the boat at least 80 nights a year, so the lights get used a lot. But I am looking at them right now and the bezels are like new. I bet it's the heat from the halogens.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff. I wrote to Richard in Parts at Ranger Tugs and he said they do not use that type of light anymore. Figures!

He said he may be able to replace the bezels per warranty, but my guess is the same thing will happen unless I convert to LED.

To be honest, I am not a fan of the light that the LED bulbs cast. But I guess I may have to be.

Barry, I replaced mine with LED and IMO the difference in light is negligable. I will see if I can find the exact bulb I ordered. I purchased mine through MarineBeam a good company that stands behind their product.

PS. Here is what I bought- the color is Warm White - G4 LED Bulb 10-LED SMD Power Cluster X-Beam

I have to differ with Jim on this one. The LED light is not only brighter but is also whiter than for incandescent bulbs. The type of light emitted by LED is for ever changing as manufacturers keep trying to make the LED more compatible with the type of 'warm' light that incandescents have. This is my current opinion having converted to using LED about 2 years ago.

The big advantage of LED is the reduced power they consume compared to incandescent.

In my house bathroom I installed a string of LED lights above and behind a large wall-to-wall mirror. They were hidden behind the mirror close to the ceiling. The total number of LEDs I used was around 20 and they consume 6 watts and give of practically no heat, so they can be left on 24x7. Not one has failed over these 4 years of constant use. They were the 'warmest light' ones I could buy at the time but are whiter than their equivalent incandescent bulbs.

I assume you meant Mike from Knot Flying you were disagreeing with, but I have been called worse than Jim. My opinion is often differed with. And I did say I thought the difference was negligible. In any event I think the difference in ambiance is more than compensated for by the savings in power consumption.

Mike: Yes.... for some weird reason I know you as Jim with all your excellent advice/knowledge you provide in this forum.... I apologize for the name conflict.

We agree on the 'power saving' aspects of LED vs. Incandescent. 😀 ...and of course their lifetime is so much better and the cost break comes after a few years of use.

I do wonder what the proper disposal is for burned out LED bulbs ? Are they considered toxic waste ?

I am sure a law regarding the disposal of LED bulbs will be drafted some time in the future. Until then feel free to pollute away.

Thanks Mike. I am on marinebeam.com as we speak.

We both have a 2011 R-27. Did you convert the anchor light, and if so, did you use the pre- or post-2010 bulb?

Also, with the cabin lights, was it a plug and play swap or did you have to do any fiddling around to install them?

Seeing that Ranger Tugs is replacing the bezels for me, I might as well go ahead and convert to LED.

Ranger Tugs has replaced my four trim rings and the LED bulb replacements are in the mail.

I will let you know how things turn out. This could be my July 4th project while sitting in Marblehead Harbor, drinking a Bud Light Lime and watching the fireworks.

Barry,

I did replace the anchor light, but can't remember which one I used. I seem to remember the ends were cone shaped.
