Good morning, Need to replace the gray check valve on my Aft bilge pump. It has barbed fittings, but does anyone know the internal diameter of the discharge hose for the bilge pump? 2014 R31. Thanks!

Not sure of the size, but if it is not working you can disassemble and check that the flapper is not stuck. It is a pretty simple device.

Bumping this post from last summer. Haifisch, did you find the flapper stuck, as Knotflying suggested? Or did you replace and, if so, what was the size of the discharge hose?

I have a leaking check valve in the line to the raw water pump and forgot to measure the hose before leaving the boat, which is an hour from me. It looks to be the same as the bilge lines. It would be helpful to know the hose size before my next trip back to the boat. Thanks to Haifisch or anyone else with info to share.

Hi Gini,

The hose is 3/4 ID. The stuck flapper issue can only be resolved a limited number of times. The valve is nearing 10 years old and I think the plastic/rubber just starts to get less flexible. I switched to a Whale brand from West Marine since that is all they had in stock with barb fitting of that size. Seems to work just as well.

On a separate issue, I have my Vesper Cortex programmed and awaiting pick up at Rodgers next week, can't wait to start that project! Boat is currently out of the water at the spa getting bottom paint, prop refurbish, packing gland etc done at CSR in Des Moines. With this weather, unlikely I'll see her again until mid January!

Hi John,

Thanks for the info on the hose size and on the valve flapper. Fisheries stocks the same model that the factory uses (Bosworth) so I’m going to add one to an order I’m putting through today. The leaking valve is only about 4 years old, so I’ll also check the flapper before replacing it. If that cures the leak, I’ll keep the other as a spare.

Exciting that you will have the Cortex soon! The installation should be pretty straightforward, but let me know if you have questions. Not sure who you are dealing with at Rodgers — one of the two Martys probably. They know their stuff and should be helpful too. Good luck!
