My midship Bilge Pump is not checking for water. It will buzz with control switch but does not turn on. Does the control switch work when the fuse is blown? I ordered a replacement from Amazon any way.

They fail (the automatic part of them). Usually they'll work manually though. They are powered via 2 sources, so make sure the replacement has the auto feature. The first source is via the 24x7 fuse block (for the automatic function). The manual function is powered off the normal distribution block up at the helm (by the switch).

To kill power to them, I pull the 24x7 fuse, and I disconnect the 8 switch terminal behind the mirror. THere's two big quick disconnects there. There's no "fuse" for the manual operation, as right next to the switch is a dc circuit breaker.

I replaced all my bilge pumps (and I renamed them as well). The factory labels them "bow, fwd, aft". As a submariner, fwd and bow sound the same to me.

I renamed them:
Fwd
Mid
Aft

Then I also replaced the float switch in the shower sump.

Ironically, everything had failed for automatic function, with the exception of the aft bilge pump, which is the only one that runs a lot.

Thanks a lot! On my boat 2 of the fuses are tricky to get to in the midberth wall. The third is behind the mirror in the head. I am replacing the midship pump as the other two seem to be fine although I never really hear the forward pump unless I use the manual switch.

The factory has used a few different styles of pumps in the v-berth. If it's the long looking one, it has a H and L and a Timer setting. It should be set to L (low), in which it waits for a low water level before turning on. The Timer setting would cause it to turn on every 2.5 minutes and would hinder a good nights sleep.

However, if there's any water in the forward bilge, and that pump needs to turn on, you probably need the USCG and a life jacket. I've never had water in my v-berth bilge. It's never pumped any water in 6 years.

Agree, I need to change one of the pumps in the aft section which is not checking for water .
