Subject: Bilge Pumps and the new R-27/OB

FYI...
Today I learned that the new 2019 R-27/OB (at least one with whom I've talked with the owner about) now has RULE bilge pumps installed. It seems at least the two aft pumps are now RULE brand and are automatic and require no water sensor box like on my 2018 R-27/OB model. These pumps operate a little differently from my pumps. They will, every 2-1/2 minutes, turn on for approximately 1 (one) second to check for water and if water is present will continue to run until all the water is removed. They will start pumping when water level is at 1-3/4" and stop when the level reaches 3/4".

The daily Amp Hours used by these pumps range from 0.25 for the 800 GPH model up to 1.52 for the 8000 GPH pump model.

I'm unsure as to the noise level these pumps make when they turn on every 2-1/2 minutes, but others can chime in on this aspect.

If this same RULE pump is installed forward on the hull near to the forward head then you might be surprised at the bilge whine every 2-1/2 minutes while getting to sleep.

I believe the bilge pumps in my boat are the Rule pumps. My boat is still at the dealer so I can't check for sure. But yes every few minutes something runs for a very brief time. It is obvious from the outside when the boat is sitting on the trailer. I don't remember hearing it when I am at the helm. We have not spent the night on the boat yet so I am not sure how loud it will be in the berth. If it is as loud in the berth as it is outside the boat... I will not be happy.

I've slept in the berth and haven't noticed it there. It is noticeable from the saloon at times.
