Has anyone with an r23 figured out a way to check the level of their black water tank? I try to make estimates based on fresh water usage but I feel like I’m pumping out far more often then needed.

My 2021 R-23 has a hole cut in the stringer right above the shower sump. Just discovered it yesterday while winterizing the sump pump. I will use my cell phone to snap a pic of it occasionally to check the level. Can’t see it without standing on your head, otherwise.

Isn’t the only thing going in your black water tank the toilet? Gray water usually goes overboard. If the toilet used 1gpf, you can use that as a rough guide.

So the question should be, why isn't fluid motion installing tank monitors on there boats? Every RV manufacturer has them, they are cheep easy installation during manufacturing.
I could say more but you get my point! Bob

The tecma toilet in the C30 has one. It’s not perfect, but shows empty, half, full.

I have a Hart Tank Tender on my R23. It’s set up to monitor both the black water and Diesel fuel for the Webasto heater. Came with the boat and works very well.

Thanks to everyone for the help.
We try to keep a running tab of flushes but with a manual pump toilet it is far from accurate. It’s even more difficult with guests onboard.
I am a fan of simple solutions, so I hope to find a small window cutout similar to Elvin Ray.
Looks like I’m heading out to brush the snow off my shrink wrap to do a little exploring!
Thanks again

A good prior thread on this subject.

I’m putting in the SCAD TM1 tank monitor this spring. In our 5 seasons of use so far without a monitor, we have measured the volume using portable pump outs and found that we (2 adults) use about 3 gallons per day of black tank capacity. Remember, f/w showers in the head don’t count since that water does not go into the black water tank. Your mileage may vary. For a R23, that would give us only 3 days of use before needing a pump out.

My 2020 R23 has a Levelguard Tank Monitor 100 installed. The light has been inop since I bought the boat used in 2021. I haven't figured out how the light is wired yet.
