I was wondering, what is the overall length of the Boat/Motor/Trailer of the new RT-27OB? I am planning on making a shelter to keep my boat in during the winter and need the overall length.

Jim: I'm in a 30-foot slip and with the bow stem against the dock lip the motor hangs out by at least 18". Thus my guess is you'll need at least 32-feet and more likely 35-feet for your boat shelter. The other dimensions are width and height and I assume you have those two.

Just to give you an idea, my r-27 inboard on trailer is 36 feet. My trailer is a bit longer that the standard. I also assume when in place you can lower the engine, but you still want room to walk around and work on it. The more room you give yourself the better. A few feet in the grand scheme of things shouldn't be much of a cast impact.

Jim: Forgot that the trailer tongue is quite lengthy. So this needs to be accounted for with my estimates for length. Maybe you're looking at 40-feet.... 😱

Our R27 Classic on the trailer is just under 36 feet. With the addition of the outboard you will likely add a few more feet. We built a 40 foot garage (exterior) which results in 38’ 10” interior dimensions when you account for the walls and door. While the OB conceivably could fit It would be unlikely you could walk around the outboard. I built a 4 foot high 3 foot deep landing at the back of the building with steps on both sides to make it easier to board and get around the boat in the garage which is very handy. With all this the door only clears the tongue of the trailer by a half inch! For these reasons I would recommend the shelter be something like 43 feet+ long (exterior) for the R27 OB. Our garage also is 16 feet wide and 16 feet tall and that works out really well.

We have a 25SC, 3D Volvo inboard, 2ft swim platform on a factory EZ loader tandem trailer. Outside dimension on the pole barn is 36 x36 with 12 ft doors. Door slides shut with 2 inches left at trailer tongue. 4 inch clearance when Mast is down.
Tight fit. I would go with 16 X 40 minimum.

Our R-27 OB was delivered by the factory yesterday. We measured the boat while on the factory trailer and I came up with just shy of 39' with the motor down*.

*The motor was up, so I'm guestimating what the length is with the engine in the vertical position (should be close).

Congratulations on your new boat. At the moment, ours is due in April. Thank you for the BMT length information. Looks like I am going to need a 44 ft building if I want to be able to walk around the boat with no issues.

Jim: If the 44ft is beyond what you can manage consider that with the boat shed's door open you can then walk around it some. Also, you could build a narrow lowish extension at one end of the shed to accommodate the trailer's tongue and use a winch to pull the trailer and boat into the shed. To retract the trailer and boat your mule can tow the trailer/boat out backwards. Yes, a bit unusual, but if space for the shed is at a premium one has to think differently. 😉 😱

With the snow we get here in the winter, I would rather not have to open the door just to get around the trailer or the motor. I measured it today, I have about a 120 ft x 75 ft space to fit the shed in. I am thinking of a 44ft x 26 ft 'shed' to store the boat and my tractor in. The question is, how much $$$$ will I have left over after buying the 27OB to build a shed????

Does your dealer sell sheds.... maybe they can arrange a deal for you.

Hello, Newbie here.

My wife and I have a R27 OB on order. Hull #54, due to be completed in March. We just did our sea trial with Andrew on Friday. What a tremendous boat, better than anticipated.

One concern I have is the length of the trailer/boat. It was stated earlier in this thread that the overall length is about 39 feet. I am in the process of having a barn built that (luckily) is going to be 44 feet in depth, with 12 ft wide 14 ft high doors. I will not have a straight approach to the door but will need to swing the trailer 90 degrees. I feel I can do it because of the 12 ft width of the door and space inside that will allow the boat to enter before it is perfectly aligned, but I have these questions:

1. Does anyone have an idea of the smallest radius turn for the the trailer?
2. Has anyone used a trailer power dolly to move this or a similar weighted trailer/boat.
3. Would a 1000cc side-by-side be capable of moving this
4. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks,Morgan and Aileen :?:

We had a single axle sailboat we used to keep in our 30 x 40 building. Even though it was 32 feet long, it was easy to maneuver by hand once the tongue wheel was on the concrete in the building. Our ranger tug with its weight and the second axle is a whole different story. Trying to turn two axles takes some power. We use a hitch attachment on the front loader of our Kubota to push it in and maneuver it around. Doing this allows me to lift the tongue high enough to take the weight off the forward axle so it turns easily. We have the classic 27 IB and have just under 4 feet to spare for space front to back.
