We don't pick up our R-27 for a couple more weeks, and am wondering if anyone else out there with propane tanks has put their boat name on the transom, or if we should think about the aft section of the white ridge under the cockpit railing.

I'm told the home port will fit on the propane tank cover.

Thanks!

(Almost....)

There is no requirement that the name/port be visible... There is no requirement that it be named (unless documented)
Our name/port is on the transom and usually obscured by something or other on the swim platform (shrug)...
I've had the CG following me less than a hundred feet behind for a couple miles up the river with an ice chest and a generator strapped to my swim platform (and running) covering most of the transom and they never so much as blinked...
Now, cover up your state registration sticker and I guarantee you will be having a conversation with someone...

Hi Crewdog, we are the Australian & New Zealand Distributors. We put the Make/Model on the boats we land down here. It is quite common for owners to put the name on the bow in Aust, so we can use the transom for the boat name. This will give you some idea of how it would look and lettering size;

The panel is 100mm (h) and our lettering is 50mm (h).

Here is a shot of an R-21 with the boat name on the transom - the panel is the same at 100mm, the lettering was at 80mm(h);

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input!

We've done a little more research and we're going to go with the boat name on the bow, with the home port on the propane tank cover. There's no hard and fast requirement to have the boat name on the transom, as we read the USCG regs.

Australia's on our list, can we rent a Ranger Tug there if we come?

Will you document with the USCG??

Hi Suwannee:

Yes, we are documenting with the USCG.

From the coast gaurd website.

The name and hailing port of a recreational vessel must be marked together on some clearly visible exterior part of the hull. The vessel name of a commercial vessel must also be marked on the port and starboard bow and the vessel name and the hailing port must also be marked on the stern. All markings may be made by any means and materials that result in durable markings and must be at least four inches in height, made in clearly legible letters of the Latin alphabet or Arabic or Roman numerals. The "hailing port" must include both a place and a State, Territory, or possession of in the United States. The state may be abbreviated.

I'm sure you've seen the link below

I found when searching for info many confusing articles and many "opinions" and oour "27" does not have the "tanks"
so I put the name and hailing port on the transom - close fit as the name is three words and used a pretty font and it was close with having to keep the letters the correct size but it fit. And put just the name on the bow.

We think it turned out nice. And all of the people who gather around to see the "cute" little TUG agree.

From Whom did you get your tug ?
