I’ve been thinking about bottom painting on our soon to be built R25OB, with the integrated swim platform/outboard engine mount. Do or have others bottom painted the underside of the engine mount/swim platform?

Hi Jim F,

My bottom paint covers the engine pod. My boat came with Pettit Eco that did not work well in the middle Chesapeake. This year I used Pettit SR-60 which has done a great job. It has been discontinued and replaced with the Pettit Odyssey. Anything below the water line is painted. Any metal uses a Pettit spray also.

Good Luck.

Our engine mount/pod area is bottom painted as well as the trim tabs. We do not have bottom paint on the underside of the swim platform. Since we store our boat on the trailer in a covered building I don’t think we need to have that area painted. For the type of cruising we do our boat is only in the water for 2-3 weeks at a time at maximum but typically it’s only in the water for 2-7 days at a time.
