New owner here. Have owned the R25 for about 6 months. This evening I hit the bow thruster joystick and heard a small clunk and then just the sound of like the shaft spinning.... no thrust. I am guessing a shear pin may have been broken. I did not hit anything, I was in the harbor, which is clean. Ideas before I haul it out and hunt for parts?

Thanks

Shear pin can be replaced without haul out. Access under vberth. Two bolts to loosen, slide unit back. You will see where pin is or was. Remove C clamp that holds in pin, clean out remainder of pin, insert new pin, replace c clamp, slide unit back on and retighten bolts. Turn off main before starting to avoid shorting unit while moving it around. Depending on how new your unit is you may have a spare shear pin attached to the side of the unit. Having the plier like tool to spread and remove the retaining clamp will make it go faster.

What about the A/C unit? On the R27 the A/C is under the vee berth. Is that in the way?

I was having the same problem with both bow and stern thrusters. I took the bow thruster apart (with the great advice from this forum) thinking it was my shearpin. When I pulled it out,it was fine. I put a new one in anyway and saved the old one for a spare. Before I pulled apart the stern thruster, I pulled the boat out of the water and saw so many barnacles on the props, that it was just a spinning ball. After cleaning, scraping and repainting, they are working great. My boat was in the water for about six months. Lesson learned and now I know how to change shearpins.

Thanks all for the the advice and pics. Ordering the pins from the factory tomorrow.

On the housing of my bow thruster there was a spare shear pin attached. You just need to look under your V-Berth and check the thruster housing and, if there, should be very visible. There is a formed plastic clip for it.
