Bow thruster noise

I just changed out my shear pin on the bow thruster of my 31s. Works just fine but it has a different high pitch noise that goes up and down in pitch with speed of motor. Bought boat used so don't know what it should sound like with a fresh pin. Is this normal or do I need to reinstall new pin? Previous owner had multiple brass spares so used them instead of going to the new stainless.

Depending on the noise it could be a broken blade on the thruster propeller. It may have become jammed and therefore caused the pin to break.

Hi Mikep,

Best way to make sure all is well is to check the system's individual components and make sure that all are ok. Getting a slightly different sound is not necessarily an indication of a problem. But to be sure, check all components to ensure that they are working properly and have no issues.
