Good morning All,

Does anyone know how to change the shear pin in the R25 bow thruster? We sucked up a rope yesterday and before i reacted I think i broke the pin. I dove on the boat and got all the rope out the prop is still there, the unit runs but no propellor movement. I don't know where to even start. Any advice would be appreciated.

Does anyone have diagrams that show exactly where the shear pin is or how to remove it? I went onto SidePower's website and could not find anything really useful. And they have the shear pin mislabeled on the one diagram I found. Argh.

I, of course, like to keep all my manuals and spare parts onboard, and since this is not the first post about shear pins, I am really wanting to update both the manuals briefcase and the spare parts box.

That was the same place i went (Sidepower site) and didn't really learn anything either. I did find a spare pin on a clip attached to the Thruster motor. I am thinking it has to be between the prop and drive shaft. I am going to pull the boat out this afternoon and check it out. I'll post if i figure any thing out.

Sparky,
The "shear or drive pin" is located between the motor and the gear box. I cut off the power and it was only 2 allen bolts to get it out. However in my case the pin was fine. We used a big srewdriver in the gearbox Drive slot to lock the shaft and removed the nut and the prop. All of the splines in the hub of the prop were broken off. So I will order 2 of them as soon as Imtra is open tomorrow.(one spare) I am not a great writer but you can call me if you have any questions 228 623 2803

Is the shear pin accessible from inside the boat? We don't have a trailer (mostly because we didn't also want to buy a towtruck!)......obviously the prop has to be changed on land, or by a good diver.

Glad you got it sorted out. Hate those stray lines in the water. It's crab pots around here!

Sparky,
The bow thruster is very accesible, the farthest forward piece of the matress lifts out and there is a 2 piece" covering board" it comes out and poof there it sits and is readily accesable. I could change that drive pin in less than 30 minutes. I have been told that the stern thruster is a different story, a lot tougher to get to. As an aside i checked the stern thruster prop and it was pretty sloppy feeling on the shaft so i will replace both props. Got you on the trailer we keep our boat at the dock and debated whether or not to buy one. If for nothing else doing maintanance in My driveway vice hauling the boat has made terry and i believe geting the trailer was the right thing to do.

At the last Vancouver Boat Show, I purchased 2 x 5-blade props for my thrusters. Apparently they are quieter and more powerful. They haven't been installed yet. Anybody know about them? If I can remember, I'll bring them to the Rendezvous.
