Subject: Bracket device for securing an iPad Pro 12.9" to console

I will be wanting to install an Apple iPad Pro alongside my R29 CB's lower helm console; the large area that is rather blank/vacant to the left of the stock chart plotter display.

I'm told the holding device needs to be sturdy and allow for a charging cable to be inserted to the iPad in the case it needs charging.

This is the holding device (RAM Mount) I'm contemplating at this time.... it's a fair price and would be installed to display the iPad in landscape mode.

My main concern is - will this mount securely hold the iPad when the boat is under duress in heavy seas with the boat rocking & rolling ?
 
Ram mounts are made to hold under any condition. Police cars use them all the time.

The bracket you have pictured is the one I have used on both my R29 and R27 and they work fine,
I have been from Seattle to Alaska on both boats and the bracket will not cause you and problems.

How is the bracket secured to the console?
 
Barry, I am considering using a magnetic holder with wireless (inductive) charging. It supports both landscape and portrait mounting. I have a Launchport at home and the magnetic attachment is very solid. It requires inserting the iPad into a plastic bracket, but that also provides protection to the iPad. I have not seen it in marine use but I see no reason why it shouldn't work. Check it out at https://iportproducts.com.

Dang..... that one is terribly expensive.... at $479 for the iPad Pro 12.9" and requires 24v. :shock:
 
I will have my iPad Pro's bracket directly attached to the console face to left of and aligned with the stock chart plotter.
 
Barry, there is the mounting method to your console/dash and then the method to hold your iPad. I have tried several methods. Anything magnetic, or with limited compression, ultimately failed under heavy seas. The link below has never failed. Add a 24v USB charger on your dash and secure your very expensive 12 inch tablet in something that will withstand wave impacts. Might be room for a spare in your cockpit if you are comfortable using the auto pilot remote away from the helm. Will that RAM Tab-Tite Universal Spring handle the iPad Pro 12.9" without a case ? This iPad Pro model measures 12.04" H and 8.69" W.
 
I would not try to use or store a magnetic mount anywhere near your main compass or near your autopilot compass.
 
I've converted the Ram mount suction base to using a Seasucker low profile base, with a screw in RAM ball in the socket.

mounted to the glass in front of helm.

The RAM suction would fall off in high temps and wasn't quite reliable, and the SeaSucker hasn't budged in hot, cold or stormy weather.

you can get different size X-grips from RAM, and works great on the smaller iPhone as well.
Also different length double socket arms are available as well.
