What works best?

Nothing. Tried all sorts of stuff, including brasso and some high tech boat show stuff, West Marine stuff, etc. Had 'em looking great - turned my back for a week and realized it was just not ever going to stay shiny, so gave up. Still love my tug.

A product called NOXON works pretty good but it will not last forever.
Also works on other metals but not all. Wear gloves!

In the late 50's i worked on oil tankers..old T-2 tankers...Marcus Hook to Banyas, Syria...there were brass portholes on parts of the ship...never shined...they had a patina of their own...on my 25, that look is just fine

If you like the easy care nature of a "patina" on the ports, polish them one last time and try using a special patina "agent" that is sold at craft shops. That way the port will have a nice even finish and should stay that way.

are the ports made of Bronze or brass?

Trying to keep the ports shiny is like trying to clean your diveway with a toothbrush. Looks great, but It's just not worth the trouble. Give up now, and use the time saved to go boat riding. Or get Bill Gates to adopt you and then hire someone to do it for you.
