New boaters and R27 owners and while things are going well so far, and I know I’m WAY EARLY ON THIS, but planning my route to Roche Harbour from Vancouver for the Sept event has us potentially going through some tricky spots. I’ll probably take the conservative route and skip the pass at Bennett Bay as well as Johns Pass and instead go Active Pass (which might have its own challenges) but if someone else here in Vancouver is making the trip buddy boating would be welcomed by us!

Is there a recommended route between Vancouver and Roche?

Not sure where you are in Vancouver. But when we are at Union Steamship on Bowen Island we went straight across the Strait of Georgia as quickly as possibly. Since we were going south after getting across the strait, we went through Porlier Pass. Pretty easy pass as long as you keep your track in the center channel. Not much traffic. Active Pass has a high level of BC Ferry traffic.
From Porlier Pass, south down the protected Trincomali Channel and then past Montague Harbor. Go a bit west to go around the west side of North Pender Island, then a quick shot across the Haro Strait on the west side of Stuart Island past the famous lighthouse and finally straight into Roche.
We were at an empty Roche Tuesday & Wednesday

and will be up in Montague on Saturday. Once you get across the Strait of Georgia the trip is usually pretty easy unless the weather is truly terrible. I use Windy, Environment Canada’s Marine weather forecast and the reporting buoys to check conditions.

Good luck and have fun!

Thank you - I will look into that course instead. I had thought about crossing the Strait first but felt it might be smoother heading south first. I’ll definitely look into it.

We spent a night at Union Steemship Marina last weekend - we actually live pretty close to it even tho our boat is in Richmond (impossible to find slips these days as you might know). We just loved Snug Cove on a boat!
