Hi...we have a 2008 ranger 25 ft and we went to use our butane stove and the butane canister would not seat properly, you could hear and smell the butane coming out....we have not had any problems before but after we changed the butane canister we can't get it to engage. Any suggestions??? We just had the boat hauled out and they shut everything off could there be a switch we are missing?? Thank you!

First off, is the stove truly butane or are you talking about a typical propane stove? Secondly, by "canister", do you mean a small camp style canister or are you referring to a larger tank? And where is it located?

Dan,
It's a small camp butane canister that comes standard on the Ranger 25...

Sorry Dan, I didn't answer all the questions....the canister is located next to the stove on the right hand side...

As I recall nothing shows up on the standard wiring diagram from that era other than the direct power from batteries to Wallas. Being totally unfamiliar with your set up I don't really have anything useful to add.

You have a very very dangerous situation here! Propane vessels must be isolated from any interior space by being kept in a cabinet that's sealed from the interior while also being vented to the outside. On Ranger Tugs the bottles typically are stored in a cabinet on the swim step with hoses run from there to the appliances. These boats also tend to be equipped with propane sniffers just in case.

I have a 2008 R25 with the Wallas stove top/cabin heater and it runs on diesel. If I had to guess; someone replaced a Wallas with your set up. As you have seen, it can release raw propane in an uncontrolled manner into the interior space, which expands by a ratio of 270 to 1 going from liquid in the bottle to the atmosphere, very very unsafe.

Hi krispirae. I think tunnaweigh might be right. Your stove could have been replaced. Can you perhaps post a pic so we can see? I 'd like to try and lend some help even if it wasn't something we installed. Thanks!
