My 2011 C26 (new 2nd owner) throws quite a wake at low speeds 8-10 kn.
In a light following sea chased by 10 knot winds I see: big wake, impressive "rooster tail" thrown up a few feet higher than swim platform, and swim platform itself frequently awash (tabs not deployed, fully up).

Yanmar 180HP, no undue noise/vibration, and as a crude indicator of performance she tops out at around 22 knots. Lightweight as I'm semi-winterized, no water aboard. Maybe too lightweight: bobs around a lot in a beam sea, feels like I'm riding a piece of styrofoam. Bow is not riding high at those speeds - perfect sight lines.

Should I be using tabs at such lazy speeds? Should I be "tuning" prop or something?

I was thinking of a cradle-type horizontal dinghy mount for a lightweight RIB - but the way things are it would be beaten to death by the rooster tail within a day.

On our R25SC that was the speed without tabs down that we wake surfed. If we were cruising at that speed (which we would only do if the waves were such that we did not want to go faster or slower) we almost always would use trim tabs to improve the fuel mileage.

Those are displacement speeds for that hull. You are simply digging a hole and plowing a big bow wave at speeds over about 6 knots. Very inefficient, that's why you are seeing so much water being displaced.

Thanks - as a newbie I guess I've zeroed in on the worst-efficiency speed out of paranoia arising from the logs, deadheads, crabtraps infesting Ganges harbour; seaplanes coming in/out in both directions (why don't those guys announce themselves on Ch16?). Already had the stern thruster choke on the flotsam that collects in my slip. Still a great adventure, out every day testing the weather.

Hello,

The C26 has a stepped hull which means it likes going faster than the Ranger Tugs, once up on step the boat begins to "plane" out and the trim tabs will help with line of sight and also the side to side balance of the boat. Enjoy the boat!!

Thanks,
