Alright who has figured out the best set up for scotty down riggers (or even cannon) on their c28 since the the hand rail is completely in the way of the rigger on the port side, causing you to either run the rigger swung way forward or way aft or on a massive riser. Iv contemplated several options but just want to see what others have come up with to give me some inspiration.

I have 2 Scotties on risers to clear the hand rails on our C28. Stbd is on a DR pad at the very stern of the rail for ease of hauling crab/prawn traps to the swimpad and makes a port turn better while fishing as the original DR pad is too far forward. We also have a 25 hp Yamaha for fishing plumbed to the hydraulic steering so using the auto pilot while fishing is great.

I bucked off part of ss pipe rail and mounted a high Scotty mount. We fish 300 feet deep out off Comox, with 18-lb cannonballs. It seems to work well, but often lift the outside line when making our turns back to the hot spot.

We use risers (six inch, I think) for our two Scottys. Works fine.Scotty on Riser.jpg

Do you have any pictures of the rail you cut. I have considered that option.

The photo makes it look a little bit dramatic. I'm not a tall guy and I run these all day and don't even think about the height of them. I confirmed, it's only six inches more in height (and about $80).

Though not a C-28, I had the same problem on my R-21. I went with a track system 2in risers and a swivel base which raised the downrigger enough to clear the hand rails.IMG_3823.pngIMG_3825.pngIMG_3824.png
