Hi everyone. This is my first post so I hope it's in the right section. I've been researching the C28 for about a year and I'm a hopeful new owner in the next year or so. In my research, I have a few questions that I'm having a hard time finding the answer to.

In pictures of the the newer (2017+) C28s I've noticed the generator is located aft of the engine. In the original layout and in the owner's manual online it shows them under the cooler cabinet. What was the reason for the change? Better balance to correct some of the listing I've read about? Does it affect the ability to run the engine and generator at the same time in terms of heat build up in the engine bay? Is the boat now more stern heavy? I also heard they moved the holding tank.

What are the dimensions of the "cave"? I know it's tight for sleeping but great for storage. We have a couple of inflatable paddle boards that fit into duffels, some fishing gear, and I'm hoping to get an inflatable tender like the TrueKit Navigator 2.5m that I'd like to have good stowage options for. I have a basic idea of the square footage but I cant find any info on the overhead clearance with the mattress out.

Every time I'm on the road for work, I look into local places that may have a listing so I can go see the boat for myself. We are located in Ohio and the Cutwaters are few and far between here even though I feel like it would would make a perfect Great Lakes boat. I'm looking forward to the deeper dive as I move through the search process.

I have a 2017 C28. I can't speak to the reason for relocating it, but I would assume it's better balanced now since it sits directly in the center. The holding tank is visible from right inside the door under the hatch, slightly to the port side. I have no listing problems with mine, unless it's for obvious reasons like where people are sitting/standing, or where I've loaded weight.

Overall, I love the boat and would definitely recommend one.
 
I have a 2013 Cutwater 28. I was told the MASE diesel generator I have was no longer imported into the United States. Fluid Motion decided to go with Onan (Cummins) but their model wouldn't fit under the cooler cabinet. Thus the relocation.

Hello,

We moved the generator cause we no longer used the MASE generator and now are using the NextGen which wouldn't fit in the old location, thus moving AFT but also helped level out the boat a little and gave more access to service generator. I haven't heard or dealt with any issues of heat when running both engine and generator. With that we had to also move the black water tank just inside the cabin door under the access hatch.

I don't have exact measurements but I will say from first hand that the cave has plenty of space for what you are trying to store in the boat. You may want to think about getting a dinghy that will mount to the swim platform to save some space inside the boat which will also help with organization which can be important in accessing your gear.

Thanks everyone. Thanks Kevin for the opportunity to reach out personally. I'm used to the swim deck mounted RIB as that's the current set up I work with but the marina where I will tie up has a rule against keeping the boat at the dock with the tender on it. The plan is to set the packable tender up with the weaver mounts and use it that way on extended cruises but simplify the storage and transport by having it in the mothership when it's not needed. I have to admit though, I'm a function addict (part of why the Cutwater appeals to me) so I'm sure I'll have some work cut out trying to make sure I can make everything accessible. I was looking for the clearance from the deck to top of the cave because the duffel bags for the paddle boards are pretty decent size. Maybe 32" x 15" x 15".
 
Where in Ohio? I have a 2014 C28 on Lake Erie on the West side of Cleveland. Happy to answer questions, and if you are local, invite you aboard so you can take measurements of the cave etc.
