Hi All,

I opened my engine compartment to find a small amount of coolant in the weep hole bilge area on the starboard side of the engine. Strangely I haven't used the boat since presidents day weekend, so maybe it's been there since then? I was confused as to where coolant could be leaking in that area, but I think I have isolated it to one of the hoses that runs to the hot water tank / cabin heater. The fitting is one I'm not super familiar with, seems like a few different NPT / Hose barb type connections, but it did seem wet, and this seems like the most likely source. How do you tighten these fittings up? I will of course check all the hose clamps as well. Anything else I should be on the lookout for here?? Here's a link to a few photos (see two recent photos):

IN the meantime, I think there should be a couple of valves on the hoses to shut off the coolant flow the hot water heater and cabin heater.

Yes there are, but I can't tell if the leak is occuring before or after the shutoff valve 🙂

Hey Dave, I don't mean to hijack your thread but when I went to look at your photos I saw the door you put on your former wine cooler cabinet, can I ask you where you found it? That really made the opening look professionally done. Great job!!
Thanks for any direction you can give me.
Regarding the fittings on the coolant lines, I believe they come from this manufacturer,

You may be able to contact them for more information.
Hope this helps you in your quest.

Thanks Terry and no worries at all! That door came from boat outfitters. Not the cheapest solution, but worked out very well for us:

Measure many times! 🙂

This may already be your plan ... but if the hoses are original, I'd consider replacing them. Hoses with hot contents have a shorter life, and if you're already redoing connections, it seems like a good time for that insurance.

good advice. I tightened up all the hose clamps and fittings last night and am going to observe for leaks after the next cruise. I really don't know how I would replace those hoses - access is TERRIBLE. I'm already having back problems from installing the watermaker (still a WIP) and need to let it rest before I mess it up again! 🙂

I had a similar experience and thought that just tightening the clamp would work. It did not. I finally pulled the hose from the fitting, cut off the end where the old clamp had been, reconned the fitting and used a new clamp. No more leak. Sometimes tightening the clamp squeezes the hose in a way that allows seepage.

Just in time, this weekend looks like it will be a nice time to sit in the cockpit, recover with a beverage, and do ZERO boat work! (I was going to ask for photos of the watermaker until I saw the "WIP," totally understand!)

sent you some photos of the work thus far... unfortunately the boat is pretty torn apart from the project, so likely won't be using it this weekend!
