If my impressionist sense is correct, there is a growing number of Tugnut owners in and around the Portland area. And I think a Cutwater owner or two. From recent posts, it looks like Lenny and Louise of Then Again will be down in the Portland area later this summer, and Joe who has purchased Slackwater Jack's R21 will be in the Willamette Falls area soon (Joe, am I right that the locks have again closed to the public for the indefinite future?). I think there are a few others in the area too. We've seen an R21 and an R25 at the marinas at Janzen beach -- those are just the ones we readily spotted when scouting out moorages in the area. There are likely at least a few others.

So, Portland area Tugnuts! How about roll call?

Lets see if we can figure out who all is in the area and when (as in Lenny and Louise's case) they will be around. Maybe towards the end of the summer or early fall we can have our own little Ranger Tug flotella gathering of some kind.

And, and for those who haven't yet, get on the World of Tugnuts map by emailing Bruce with your boat and mooring info. That really is a great way to see who's nearby.

Count us in, Lisa and I will be in Portland with our Kismet for three weeks at the end of October. Our plan is to dock somewhere on the Columbia for easy access into the City for visiting our son and family. Hopefully you'll include us outsiders!

Jim, perfect! We will have to have some kind of gathering in your honor. 😀

For really easy access to the city, you will want the River Place marina, right downtown on the Willamette. You have probably already figured that out. Great location. Expensive, but that's because it is right in the middle of the city where all the action is. By the end of October, there should be excellent availability and temp moorage in one of the slips rather than out on the guest dock.

We look forward to meeting you and Lisa!

Gin,
Thanks for getting the ball rolling, Nancy and I would welcome an opportunity to meet up with other Portland area tug owners. As for the Willamette Falls Locks, you are unfortunately correct, the locks are closed until further notice. Check out the link below for more information on local efforts to reopen the locks. There is an excellent ramp at Bernerts Landing (in West Linn's Willamette Park) which is just above the falls at the confluence with the Tualatin River. This allows access to upriver river cruising to at least Newberg, OR. There is no practical access to the mouth of the Tualatin for tugs due to the rocky and shallow nature of that inlet.

Looking forward to meeting you sometime soon, Joe & Nan

John's Folly, a 2008 R25, will be put back into the Columbia River system about July 1st. We keep it here at home in Albany during the winter and have made arrangments for a slip at Fred's Marina, on the Multnomah Channel, for the summer. We look forward to seeing other Ranger Tugs on the river. We have been on the river for the last three years and have hauled our tug up to Olympia each of the last two years for 10 days or so on the south sound. See you later this summer.

Gini,
Thanks for starting the list! Please put us on it. If all goes well, we will be permanently located on the Columbia by end of September. We are looking for our own "mooring" first, then we will find a place for Then Again. Looking forward to some great get togethers.

Our home port is Chinook, Wa., just across from Astoria, Or.. We should be home all of August and September.

Love hearing from so many locals! I think we are well on our way to a Portland area rendezvous. Met someone today who has a 2008 R25 that he trailers to the sound from Dallas Oregon. He hopes to be in the Columbia around September.

Whether earlier in the summer or in the fall, looks like we can pull together a gathering.

I'm keeping tabs on responses. Thanks all!

Gini, Colleen:
Thank you for the roll call. We have a R-21 classic moored on a trailer in Vancouver Wa. We would be interested in any local get to-gethers. If any one knows of any good launch pads that have resonable secure parking for tow vehicles and trailers for overnite parking would be appreciated. We do plan on trips this summer to the South Sound and some western Wa. State lakes. I am also interested in hearing from any one out there who owns an older R-21 Mine is a 1992 with the 3GM30-F Yanmar. (full displacement hull) I am near the finish of re-doing all of the exterior teak and should be ready to go soon.
Please stay in touch,
Regards
Don

Don, great to hear from you. I'm adding you to the contact list. We'll definitely stay in touch.

Gini, in April we became the happy owners of our R25SC, which we keep at Port of Kalama marina. We just returned from Friday Harbor as tag-along guests at a C-Brats gathering. It was a very enjoyable event where we met a lot of friendly and welcoming people. I also discovered among them a number of people hoping sooner or later to own a Ranger Tug. By the way, ours was one of about five Ranger Tug owners who had also tagged along.
We would very much like to be included on your roll call of Portland area Tugnuts.
Larry and Barb on BLUE MAX

Kalama -- terrific. Yet another RT in the area! We'll keep collecting names and then begin to think about there where and when. Thanks for joining the roll call, Larry and Barb!

My wife and I have just taken delivery of a used, but new to us Cutwater 28. We are moored at Hayden Bay on the Columbia. We look forward to cruising the Portland area as we learn all about our new vessel. We also look forward to meeting some of the other local Tugnuts!
Best to you all.

Michael & Jamie

Michael and Jamie,

Was that the delivery Kenny made last Thursday at Marine Park on the Vancouver side of the river? We heard a Cutwater was coming to the area. We thought it was going to be moored at the Rose City Yacht Club (RCYC), since some folks at RCYC said a Cutwater was coming to the marina soon. We assumed the one Kenny delivered last week was the one headed for RCYC, but sounds like it may have been you. If so, there may be another Cutwater in Portland's future soon.

Cutwaters and Ranger Tugs are kindred spirits, of course. It will be a fun gathering! Thanks for joining in. You're on the list of contacts!

:Hi Gini

Thanks for your call for Portland area Ranger Tug owners. Rick and I took delivery of our new R31 tug, the About Tyme, earlier this month and have settled her in at Larson's Marina on the Multnomah Channel. We have been wondering how many Ranger Tugs there are in the Portland area and would love to meet the group for some cruising. Please add us to the list!

Deb Schmunk

Swims With Tuna, an R25sc lives at Newport for the fishing season but would like to meet other tugs if the timing is right. Please keep us posted regarding a swim meet for Tugnuts in the Portland area. During the off season the boat resides in Corvallis.

Kurt, of Swims with Tuna (so gotta love that name), and Deb and Rick, of About Tyme (a brand new R31, how cool is that), so glad you have chimed in. Can't believe all the Portland area interest. I'm not quite sure how we will all gather or when, but the prospect is sure exciting.

And for those permanently around the Portland area, like Deb and Rick at Larson's on the channel, we should be able to do some impromptu get togethers as opportunities arise. Fun!

Has anyone else checked out eBoat cards? That looks like a very promising way to stay in touch. We have signed up. If anyone else has, let me know. We will try to start some connections through that promising means.

Hi.....we have a 29' Ranger Tug in Portland at Columbia River Yacht Club....keep us posted and we would love to meet up with other owners. Jerry and Cheryl on SEAJAY!

Hi Gini & Colleen,

If you don't mind an 21EC from Waldport, we would like to be added to the list as well.

Thanks!
Keith & Jamie

Keith and Jamie, Jerry and Cheryl, so glad to hear from you all! You are on the list. Keith and Jamie, it will be terrific to have you up from Waldport. And Jerry and Cheryl, keep an eye out for us to be in your neighborhood as of tomorrow.

More thanks to all those checking in.
