Calling all Portland area Tugnuts

We are the new owners of a 1981 Ranger 18 and live in Vancouver, WA. The boat just made it home with me today. It's off to be buffed and waxed tomorrow. Next comes the brightwork. Hopefully it will be done at the detail shop in time for it to make it into the water this weekend. The boat came from Newport and has been there since 1999 according to the title. I know nothing else about the history of the boat.

Please add us to the list.

David

David, you must post a pic of the boat soon! It sounds like a wonderful classic. I'm sure lots of us would love to see photos.

Meanwhile, as a fellow Portland are Tugnut, I'll hope to see you and the boat on the water, not just a photo. I'll put you on the list for the group that seems to be forming in this area. And I'll shoot you a personal message about your plans to be on the water this Sunday!

Congrats!!!

Then Again has found a home! We will be in the Sundance dry berth facility on the southeasterly corner of Hayden Island by the end of September. Looking forward to meeting all of you new friends.

I was thinking about keeping my little tug in the water for the month of July. I stopped today to look at a couple slips on Hayden Island as it is right on the way between home and work. Anyone keep their boat on the Island? I did notice a tug at Jantzen Bay. I moored at McCuddys for years and hated it because of the cottonwood trees. Pricing is crazy. For my little tug I can spend anywhere from $97.00 to over $300.00 per month.

David, Michael and Jamie have their Cutwater 28 (Oregon Trail) moored in Hayden Bay. They are the only ones, by my count, that are in a moorage on the island that might be a place you could consider for a single month. Maybe pm them?

My into the wife and I just put our tug "John's Folly" into the Multnomah Channel at Portland, OR on Friday and spent two days in the Portland area. During our travels we saw a grey Cutwater near the north end of Hayden Island and the R31 "About Tyme" near the entrance to the Multnomah channel when we were returning to our slip at Fred's Marina on Saturday afternoon. We look forward to when we can get together with other Ranger tugs in the Portland area this summer. Maybe we could plan a weekend at one of the free docks down the Multnomah Channel. There are a couple places where several of us could tie up for a day or so.

Hi to our neighbors, John and wife of the Johns Folly. Our tug the About Tyme is moored next door at Larson's in a boat house. We are going to head for Coon island on Saturday, July 13 for the weekend. It's a free public moorage in a pretty setting down the Multnomah Channel. Would be great to meet some of you there and talk tugs!

Rick and Deb. We have returned to our boat on the Multnoma Channel and look forward to meeting you sometime Saturday at the Coon Island dock. Hope to see you there.

About Tyme

Hello Portland Ranger People

I just noticed this thread RE Portland Rangers, and hope someone is still looking at this. We are taking delivery of a new 29 in Sept. and will be mooring in St. Helens. I would welcome any info regarding Portland Ranger gatherings in the future. I am sorting out how to use this site, and may not get us and our boat visable soon, but I'm working on it as I have time. Our boat will be on display at the Sept. Seattle show

My R25 and two other Ranger tugs are moored on the Multnomah Channel. I do not know how many other ones there are in the immediate area. As noted earlier in this thread a get together has been proposed. If you want to promote a get together you could do so by starting a new thread telling where and when you plan to be somewhere on the river. That will give the rest of us a chance to meet you there. Hope to see you on the river.

When I was looking for a slip recently I went to all the Marinas on Hayden Island. Jantzen Bay Had a ton of empty slips. I believe there was a dock behind the Fuel dock with picnic tables and bathrooms on it. It's also right across the street from Safeway and just up the ramp from the Liquor Store. There is not anything scenic about it and the docks are not that great but it could be a great place that we could all tie up for the night. I can't imagine that they could ask more than $20.00 for a night with power if we took 10 or so slips for a night.

Not to mention Hooters my wife just pointed out. 😉

Thoughts anyone?

Norma's Kitchen (good southern style BBQ) is in that same parking lot as the State Line Liquor Store, and Paul's Cigars and the new West Marine superstore are just on the other side of the overpass. Vices covered!

We have a 29' Ranger Tug in a boathouse on the Columbia River. Would love to join the group on the river....off to Lewiston Id on the Columbia the first 3 weeks of September but will be available after that! Jerry and Cheryl on SEAJAY

Hello, Friends!

Notice that we have dropped "under construction" from our signature. Kenny delivered Then Again in Des Moines on August 26 and Capt Mac taught us enough to be truly dangerous. We made the round trip to Anacortes for Rendezvous. She is now in the Kent factory for some finishing touches. Please look for us on the river in a few weeks.

The artwork is by Margaux - she does a fine job

Hi Lenny and Louise. Congratulations!
We have our Cutwater 28 (Taupe color) at Hayden Bay. We will be looking for you and Then Again on the river(s). What color is she? We are always on the lookout for other Cutwaters or Rangers and while we have seen a few on passing, we have yet to have a proper "meet up." Best of luck with your new boat.

Hello, Friends!

We are busy unpacking boxes in our new house in Vancouver and are eager to get on the River. Then Again is in a dry berth on south side of Hayden Island. Any suggestions on an overnight trip this time of year? We are thinking of a trip to St Helens and back, and would welcome comments. Where do we find diesel between, say, Willamette River and Government Island?
Thanks for the info. We look forward to seeing you afloat.
